The Importance of Social Education
Even the most thorough detoxification procedure is rarely enough to help someone completely turn their life around. In the case of most addicts, it is essential to get to the underlying reasons for taking drugs in the first place. This is also widely recognized in the field of drug rehabilitation and treatment, yet there are many ways in which people have tried to solve this problem.
First and foremost, replacement drugs don't work. They never have and never will, despite how many new drugs are marketed for addicts. All they have ever done is treat some symptoms for a while, but not a single drug has ever produced permanent recovery. In fact, by definition someone taking another drug to treat their addiction isn't drug-free, they're just under the influence of another substance. This includes more than just methadone or Suboxone for heroin or Oxycontin addicts, this also includes pills to quit drinking and antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs, bipolar drugs and anti-psychotic drugs. They don't work.
A social education component goes well beyond the traditional 12 steps. The other half of a biophysical program is all about application to one's life. You learn things about living and about yourself, and then you turn around and immediately apply them to see that they work. With the help of experienced professionals, this is then applied to areas of life that need fixing and repairing. A good support system isn't enough. An change in the way you live is what is needed, and the social education componenet of a biophysical drug rehab program can help make that happen by learning to take responsibility and exercising causative control in life once again.
